Underground Storage Tanks (UST)

Underground Storage Tanks (UST) have been widely used throughout the country to store petroleum-based products.

Since 1989, regulations have been in effect in Illinois to either safely upgrade these tanks or remove them, impacting the purchase and/or development of property.

Today, formal closure with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) does not necessarily require soil remediation or removal. Through their TACO regulations, official site closure is often much easier to obtain than in the past.
